Brown Paint Rules

Felicity Cozens has asked us to mention the brown paint that was used in every BATS production no matter if it was interior or exterior, Europe or Australia, face or drama. BROWN PAINT RULES.

David Austin used to mix paints for the theatre sets. Leftover paint from previous plays was used to produce other colours we needed but mostly ending up being a strange purply brown that covered everything. Enamel, and acyrlic, gloss and matt paint went in all together. It played havoc with drying times and cleaning brushes.

Many of the various plays had scenes that used David and Rodney's own furniture and carpets. They look very familiar when looking though the set photos over the years.

BATS theatre curtain
This is the third blog of the series that continues our story of the early years of BATS Theatre, the Bane Austin Touring Society in Wellington New Zealand.
All the plays that the original BATS members produced are listed on the right hand side of each blog's page list in date order.

We welcome comments from 'old BATS'and 'Batfriends' to add to the stories behind each production, photographs and programmes so we can collect and reference them accurately and share the memories.

The early BATS plays, productions and presentations are listed on the following blogs:
